What is DOC Grown
Born from the mission. Built for the work.
DOC Grown LLC is an affiliated social enterprise of The Penitent Thief. It exists for one reason: because giving people a place to stay is not enough. Returning citizens need income, skills, and a reason to stay. DOC Grown provides all three.
Through our growing network of businesses in lawn care, tree removal, home renovation, moving, and property services, DOC Grown participants earn living wages, build transferable skills, and become part of a team that believes in them. Many go on to leadership roles within the organization. Some, like Levi, come back to invest in the next generation of participants.

Levi came to The Penitent Thief as a returning citizen looking for a way forward. He found more than housing and a job. He found a community, a calling, and a reason to stay. Today Levi serves on staff in program development, investing in the next generation of participants the same way someone once invested in him.

Program Entry
Returning citizens enter The Penitent Thief program and receive housing, wrap-around support, and mentorship.
Skills Training
Participants are connected to DOC Grown businesses and begin developing real trade skills on active job sites.
Placement
Qualified participants are placed with employer partners who are committed to giving returning citizens a real opportunity.
Long-Term Support
The Penitent Thief continues to walk alongside participants after placement. The support does not stop at the job offer.
